Curried Lamb Meatballs with Yogurt Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb (500g) ground lamb
  • 2 or 3 small red chilies, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped mint
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • generous pinch of salt

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
  • 1/2 English cucumber, peeled, seeded and finely chopped
  • generous pinch of salt and freshly ground pepper


Place a greased wire rack on baking sheet. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Heat oil in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Add garlic and curry and cook, stirring for about 1 minute or until fragrant. Combine garlic mixture and remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Shape mixture into 1 tablespoon balls. Place on prepared rack. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until cooked through.

To make the yogurt sauce, combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Serve with meatballs. Makes about 24.
